• Megaworld to launch new hotel brand in Newport township

Property giant Megaworld Corp. announced on Monday it is set to open a new hotel brand, Belmont Hotel, in its Newport City township.

The Andrew Tan-led company said the Newport Belmont Hotel is a 10-story, business-class hotel with 480 rooms that range in size from 23 to 33 square meters each.

It will be located in front of the new Marriott Grand Ball room and is just across the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.

Besides its contemporary design, the hotel will feature a curtain wall — a floor to ceiling glass wall — for every room to maximize light permeability.

It also provides guests with first-class amenities such as a podium garden, a 24-hour fitness center and workout area, lap pool with in-water pool lounge, paved sunbathing lounge, massage deck and seating area, pool spa, steam and sauna rooms as well as its own business center.

A dining and shopping arcade will also be available at the ground floor of the hotel.

The Belmont Hotel is the fourth hotel brand to rise in New Port City, the other three being Marriott Hotel Manila, Maxims Hotel and Remington Hotel. It is set to be fully functional by October this year.

Currently, these hotels have a total of 1,137 rooms that enjoy an average of at least 85 percent to 90 percent occupancy rate every month.

Lorenzo Tang, general manager of Newport Belmont Hotel, said the launch of the new hotel is timely since the existing hotels are experiencing remarkable occupancy rates just a few years after their opening.

Last year, Megaworld chairperson Dr. Andrew Tan announced that the company, along with its sister company Travellers International Hotel Group, will be building a total of 12,000 rooms around the country.

Both companies plan to add 10,000 new hotel rooms in Megaworld’s township developments in the next five years.

“By the year 2020, we envision our group to be the largest hotel developer in the Philippines,” said Tan.

To date, both Megaworld and Travellers International have already built 2,049 rooms in their existing hotels: Richmonde Hotel Ortigas; Eastwood Richmonde Hotel; Marriott Hotel Manila, Maxims Hotel and Remington Hotel in Newport City; Fairways and Bluewater in Boracay Newcoast and Richmonde Hotel Iloilo.

The addition of the Newport Belmont Hotel will bring the total number of hotel rooms in Megaworld townships across the country to 2,500 by the end of the year.
