These last few days in tinsel town overflowed with testosterone with events spotlighting hot male celebrities for endorsements and upcoming performances.
‘Matteo vs. Matteo’
One of the day’s most in demand male talents Matteo Guidicelli led the launch of his latest television commercial for Sun Life Asset Management Company, Inc., where he excitedly showed two Matteos going up against each other.
The TVC featured two versions of the handsome actor with strikingly opposite tactics: The first Matteo tries to impress a girl by bragging about his new phone and credit card, while other Matteo woos her with a promise of a better future with the insurance company’s new “Prosperity Card” offering.
“We want Filipinos, especially the youth, to start investing some of their money in mutual funds,” said Sun Life president Valerie Pama before calling their star to center stage. “Instead of using up all of one’s money on trendy items that will soon be replaced by a new fad, why not invest it for the long term and watch it grow? The two Matteos in our TVC certainly highlighted that message in fun yet clear manner.”
Besides agreeing with the product concept, Guidicelli also enthused he had fun portraying two different personas for the TVC. “It’s the first time I did such a project, and I definitely enjoyed playing both roles,” he said. “But what’s important is that we were able to bring home the message. It’s fun to have nice material things and be on YOLO mode, but what will happen to you if all your money runs out and you have nothing saved for the long-term?”
The actor added that there are definitely some things that are worth the wait. “Whether I’m doing sports or working on a showbiz project, I know that I need to be patient before I could see results. Training for a competition takes time, and so does shooting a movie or recording an album. It’s the same thing when you invest your money – you have to grow it long-term before you can enjoy the benefits,” he explained. “You may have to wait a bit, but it’s always, always worth it.”4
Oh! The ‘Kapuso’ boys in concert
GMA Network’s top leading men Aljur Abrenica, Rocco Nacino, Derrick Monasterio, and Jake Vargas excitedly announced that they will appear in their first major concert dubbed Oh, Boy! come September 23 at Music Museum.
During a press conference at the station’s headquarters the quartet of “Kapuso Hunks” as they are often referred to agreed that the idea of sharing a concert stage helps boost their confidence in performing for a live audience.
While generally considered as actors more than singers, each of them have previously ventured into music at different times in their young careers.
Hermano Puli star Abrenica, who set foot into showbiz by winning Starstruck in 2006, first lived out his passion for music in 2010 when he recorded an album with GMA Records.
Another Starstruck champion, Nacino, whose acting skills were acclaimed by different award-giving bodies for the 2011 Cinemalaya entry Ang Sayaw ng Dawalang Kaliwang Paa, meanwhile, has always taken the opportunity to show his musical side when invited to guest in different GMA Network shows.
Monasterio, son of former actress Tina Monesterio and a talent of GMA Artist Center since 2009, cut his first single Kailangan Kita under GMA Records, while appearing in successive soaps.
Lastly, tagged as the “Prince of Mall Shows,” Vargas has been managing an acting career alongside recording with such hits as “Ngiti,” “Kahit Umiwas Pa,” “Miss You Like Crazy,” “Basta’t Kasama Kita,” “When I Look Into Your Eyes,” and “Can Be Mine”.
The four promise a night full of fun and good music, which will definitely include hot moves, and the special guest appearance of Asia’s Pop Sweetheart Julie Anne San Jose.
Oh, Boy! is produced by Dreamstar Events in and GMA Corporate Communications. Tickets are available at all Ticketworld and Ticketnet outlets.
All out with Eraserheads
When you say “Pinoy Rock,” the first band that comes to mind is the Eraserheads. Ely Buendia, Marcus Adoro, Raymund Marasigan, and Buddy Zabala are the four men behind the Eraserheads, who comprise one of the most important bands in the history of Pinoy rock music.
The last time the Eraserheads performed together on one stage was in 2009. But on August 19, Smart was able to bring them back together for a special private performance at the launch of its latest “All Out Surf 30” prepaid bundle.
“The All Out Surf campaign, like the Eraserheads’ performances, shows how being complete is always the best thing, whether it refers to a band or a promo. Seeing them together brings back so many memories and shows the power of being complete,” said Kathy Carag, Smart Mobile Business Head at the jam-packed event. “And as they say, ‘Iba talaga ang kumpleto,’ especially in seeing and hearing this legendary band together.”
