THE Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) on Monday called former minister Lowell Menorca 2nd a fugitive after the Bureau of Immigration (BI) confirmed that the expelled member and his family left the country on Sunday.
Menorca was supposed to appear at the Court of Appeals on Monday for the continuation of his cross-examination on the writ of amparo petition filed by his brother Anthony and sister-in-law Jungko.
“Fearing that more of his lies and sins would be exposed had he faced the last stage of the scheduled cross examination this morning, he chose to abscond. Beset by several libel suits, and an adultery charge to boot, he took the cowardly option. He took a hurried flight last night bound for Vietnam. He is now a fugitive from justice,” INC Spokesman Edwil Zabala said in a press conference in Quezon City.
BI Spokesperson Nikki Reyes confirmed that Menorca boarded a plane to Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam at 10:45 p.m. on Sunday. The BI also said there is no hold departure order against Menorca.
Menorca, on his Facebook post early Monday, said the photo of his family with an “X” mark on his daughter’s face with a caption “March 7, 2016 say goodbye!!!” written by a group who identified themselves as “Mandirigma” was pinned to his car .
“This time they have gone too far. I’m begging you…Please leave my daughter alone!!!,” Menorca said in his Facebook post.
Zabala said he talked to the Filipino couple who allegedly spotted the Menorca family in Vietnam.
“He saw his case crumbling and destined to go the same way two other similar complaints earlier filed by expelled members of the church, hence, his decision to leave the country,” the INC official added.
“Coming to the court with dirty hands, charging innocent people with offenses they did not commit then leaving like a thief in the night, Menorca had trifled with our judicial processes and showed no respect for our institutions of Justice. The respondents leave it to the court to impose the sanctions he deserves under the rules,” Zabala said.
Menorca is facing a libel complaint for alleging that the INC has a “hit squad.”
