IF your family will be heading out of town for the Holy Week break, make sure to unplug all appliances to avoid overheating that may possibly lead to fires.
This is one of the tips that the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) shared with its customers on Sunday as the country marked the start of Holy Week.
“For a worry-free vacation, we encourage our customers to heed electrical safety and efficiency measures. This includes keeping combustible materials away from outdoor lighting and other sources of heat, and using only light bulbs of specified wattage,” Meralco Public Information Office Head Joe Zaldarriaga said.
Other tips include adjusting the thermostat of refrigerators to slightly warmer setting when going on a short vacation. For an extended vacation, turn off and empty the refrigerator, and keep its door open to prevent growth of molds.
Zaldarriaga said apart from the regular maintenance and upgrading of facilities, Meralco is ready to provide 24/7 assistance during the Holy Week.
According to him, Meralco personnel will be on stand-by to respond to any contingency or unexpected power interruptions.
For power-related concerns, customers can get in touch with Meralco’s 24-hour Call Center at 16211.
