BERLIN: German Chancellor Angela Merkel was scheduled on to Wednesday visit a refugee center targeted by violent far-right protests, a day after Berlin eased some asylum rules to relieve pressure as thousands more migrants pour into Europe seeking refuge.

With criticism mounting over the bloc’s response to Europe’s worst migrant crisis since World War II, regional leaders will meet this week at a summit to be dominated by the influx.
