“In order to be irreplaceable, you have to look different.”
These style-challenging words from the great fashion icon Coco Chanel seems to be upon the hair department this summer.
Why so? Because this season, hair coloring blends metallic and pastels, according to the creative team of fashion forward beauty hub, Empire Salon.
As part of its grand opening revelries, the European-style service salon held an exciting hair show at Prive Luxury Club in Bonifacio Global City to demonstrate just how the adventurous trend should be worn on the mane.
Titled Pastellic, a whirl of wavy hair locks took to the runway, with sparkling candy color highlights playing tricks with the eyes.
For women, the salon introduced four themed looks: “Alexa in Amber” takes inspiration from British style icon, Alexa Chung, and takes the form of a textured bob with tousled waves, and highlighted with metallic green and deep amber shades.
“Color Theory” is a fitting tribute to the season’s adventurous and festive vibe with its “two-color theory” that pairs an ash brown base with a color choice of violet, blue, green, or pink.
“Sun Kissed Boehm” features soft layers to frame the face, while upping the drama with sparkling apricot highlights.
Finally, “Gilted Veronica” is a style for those who go for volume, while still carrying the season’s basic look of textured waves, this time, made more rich with gold and caramel colorings.
Men were not left out from the show as Indigo Dandy took center stage, which combines a clean cut with a rocker look via metallic blue highlights on a blue black base.
While the season’s color palette may not be for everyone, salon manager Angie Manabat likes to think otherwise. “The colors are not very loud per se but simply playful,” she made her point.
UK-trained creative director Sokie Mendoza, on the other hand, told The Manila Times that they have actually toned down the look for the Filipino stylistas.
“The Pastellic collection is our interpretation of the London hairstyle that fits Filipinos,” she said. “As you can see, we only used touches of pastels instead of full-blown coloring, which is how it’s done over there.”
If you can pull it off, go and be irreplaceable.
