SOME roads will be closed to traffic when Pope Francis leaves Manila for Leyte province on Saturday.
According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the principal route from the Apostolic Nunciature in Manila to the Villamor Air Base Gate 5 in Pasay City will be closed to motorists starting at 4:30 a.m.
The roads that will be closed include Taft Avenue, Quirino Avenue, Osmeña Highway, portion of South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Magallanes, and Sales Bridge to Villamor Air Base Gate.
Other roads to be closed are: Roxas Boulevard, NAIA Road, Domestic Road and Andrews Avenue.
The principal route from Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Tacloban City to the Archbishop’s Residence in Palo, Leyte will also be closed to motorists.
Among the roads to be closed are Picas San Jose DZR Airport Road.
Tacloban Baybay South Bay and Palo Carigara Ormoc City Road.
Pope Francis will celebrate mass in an open space near the Tacloban airport. He will have lunch with families affected by typhoon Yolanda in Palo, Leyte and the killer earthquake in Bohol.
When the Pope returns to Manila, the MMDA will also close some roads from Villamor Airbase to the Apostolic Nunciature starting at 3 p.m.
The roads to be closed include Sales Bridge to Skyway, Osmeña Highway,
Quirino Avenue, a portion of Taft Avenue, Andrews Avenue, Domestic Road, NAIA Road and Roxas Boulevard.
Meanwhile, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 will implement “full line” operations from January 15 to January 19, but the Quirino Station shall be closed on certain days and hours.
