Kris Aquino’s draw apparently goes beyond the Philippines and up the ladder of power as Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto specifically requested the President’s sister to welcome him on his arrival for the Asia Pacific Economic Conference Summit.
Kris revealed the details of the request on Tuesday afternoon via Instagram, after she joined Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada in welcoming the Mexican leader and his family to Rizal’s monument in Luneta. Vice President Binay and Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez welcomed Nieto at the Villamor Airbase.
Captioning the official document titled “State Visit of Mexico” that indicated the request, Kris wrote, “Sorry I needed to blur the other parts, but this was part of the briefing sent to me 2 months ago. Pleasantly surprised and extremely flattered to have been requested.”
Wearing a bright yellow pencil dress, accentuated with an indigenous multi-colored wrap-around at the waist for a Filipiniana touch, the TV host and movie star looked very much at ease with the Mexican President, whose good looks seem to be straight out of a telenovela.
Kris and Nieto first met a year ago on November 14 when she stood in for the President to welcome the latter for a two-hour refuelling stop at Villamor Airbase, en route to Australia.
Obviously, the Mexican President enjoyed his brief encounter with the youngest Aquino sibling, who also assisted their mother, the late President Corazon Aquino in welcoming heads of states to the country in the late ‘80s to early ’90s.
In her successive posts showing her chatting away with Nieto, Kris captioned, “…chatting with President Peña Nieto & telling him how excited I am for @darrenspanto1 and @karloslabajo [young singers Darren Espanto and JK Labajo]to sing for his daughters tonight.”
In return, Kris said “[Nieto] was so warm and appreciative of our Philippine hospitality.”
