• Mexico nabs Beltran Leyva cartel leader

MEXICO CITY: Martin Villegas Navarrete, the alleged co-leader of the once-mighty Beltran Leyva drug cartel, who is wanted in the United States, was arrested after celebrating his birthday in Mexico City on Friday (Saturday in Manila). The National Security Comission said Villegas was detained “without a shot fired” in a trendy district of the capital, where he had traveled to from the Pacific resort of Acapulco. A US court issued an extradition request for Villegas in 2011 on drug trafficking and money laundering charges, the commission said in a statement.
