• Mexico’s Gonzalez risks featherweight crown

LAS VEGAS: Mexico’s Jhonny Gonzalez defends his World Boxing Council featherweight title for the third time on Saturday against American southpaw Gary Russell Jr., hoping for more success at US venues. Gonzalez first won the crown in 2011 at Atlantic City and defended it three times before an accidental head-butt brought an eighth-round end and a loss in his 2012 fight with Daniel Ponce de Leon at Las Vegas. Gonzalez bounced back and in 2013 reclaimed the crown with a victory over compatriot Abner Mares at Los Angeles.
