• Michael Aguinaldo is new COA chief


    President Benigno Aquino 3rd has appointed Michael Aguinaldo as the new head of the Commission on Audit (COA).

    In a statement on Wednesday, Malacanang deputy spokesperson Abigail Valte said Aguinaldo’s appointment was signed on Tuesday, March 24.

    Aguinaldo will be taking the post vacated by Grace Pulido-Tan, who retired in February.

    The Deputy Executive Secretary for Legal Affairs before his new appointment, he will serve as COA chief until February 2, 2022.

    Aguinaldo has been a professor at the Ateneo School of Law since 1994 and was a partner in the Romulo Mabanta Buenaventura Sayoc & De Los Angeles Law Office, where he handled litigation and arbitration for foreign and local clients.

    A graduate of Philosophy from De La Salle University in 1987, Aguinaldo took up law at Ateneo de Manila University and placed 7th in the Bar exams in 1993.

    He obtained his Master of Law degree from the University of Michigan in 1997, with special focus on international economic law.
