Senior Inspector Milgrace Driz, Davao City police spokesperson, identified the slain candidate as Bong Mangadta. Although he was from Purok 26, Barangay 76-A, Davao City, he had filed his candidacy in Midsayap. Mangadta was with his is wife in front of a small variety store when a lone gunman approached from behind them and shot him close-range in the head. The gunman fled as residents rushed Mangadta to the hospital where he died upon arrival. The suspect, who remained unidentified, was killed after trading shots with responding policemen.
