Migz turns down Koko’s lunch invite

Former Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri on Thursday turned down an invitation from Sen. Aquilino Pimentel 3rd for them to do lunch, saying it is not necessary since they settled their differences last month.

In a statement mailed to Senate reporters, Zubiri said he appreciates Pimentel’s generous offer but that having lunch or dinner with the lawmaker is no longer needed because they already fixed things up during an El Shaddai prayer rally on the eve of the May 13 midterm elections.

“My action during that evening was of utmost sincerity and I firmly believe there wouldn’t be a need for a repeat,” Zubiri said.

Pimentel said he made his invitation though the media and never tried to call Zubiri personally.

In rejecting the invitation, Zubiri explained that “After a grueling campaign, and an uphill battle against a determined and relentless administration, I have come to humbly accept my fate. God may have other plans for me and therefore my family and I are moving on with our lives.”

The defeated senatorial candidate said he may be done with politics but he will continue to serve the public through the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) as a volunteer and member of its board of governors.

During the campaign, he had consistently attacked Zubiri and even called him a cheat for being a beneficiary of the 2007 election cheating in Mindanao.

Zubiri maintained that he was never a party to any poll fraud.
