FILIPINO challenger Milan “El Metodico” Melindo battles World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Association flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico on Saturday evening in a 12-round main title fight dubbed as Fist of Gold 2 at the Venetian Hotel in Macau, China.
Melindo, 25, who currently undefeated in 29 fights with 12 knockouts, believes that he has the arsenal and power to dethrone the tough Mexican. Estrada beat Filipino-Hawaiian Brian Viloria unanimously in their bout in April.
“100 percent I can beat him and I’m not afraid of him with the guidance of God. I’ve been waiting for this world title opportunity for so long,” said Melindo of ALA Promotion.
Melindo defeated Indonesian Tommy Seran via fourth round knockout in April in Macau.
But Estrada (24-2 win-loss card with 18 knockouts) won’t allow Melindo to spoil his first title defense as the Mexican vowed to have his hands full against the Filipino pug.
Besides Melindo, fellow Filipino Genesis “Azukal” Servania (21-0 with eight knockouts) also takes center stage as he meets Japanese Konosuke Tomiyama.
Melindo is looking to join fellow WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes, WBO minimum weight title holder Merlito Sabillo, and International Boxing Federation light flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero in the current world champion list.
