THE Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) central committee has agreed to return the firearms and personal belongings of the 44 Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) members who were killed by MILF fighters in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

In a letter sent by Mohagher Iqbal, Chairman of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) to Senator Grace Poe, chair of the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs, the MILF official stated that the leadership of the organization has decided to return the firearms and personal effects of the fallen PNP-SAF in deference to the peace process.

“Perhaps, in a couple of days, the MILF will be able to finish the internal process of accounting of the materials to pave the way for their return,” Iqbal stated in a letter which was read by Rasid Ladiasan, the head of the MILF Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) during the Senate committee hearing.

Iqbal’s letter was in response to the invitation of Poe for him to attend and shed light on the January 25 incident in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

The BTA head in the letter also extended his apology for not being able to attend the hearing saying that he is still waiting for the MILF central committee to finish its own investigation on the incident.
