Militants, cops in a shoving match Monday at Commonwealth Avenue

SOME 500 militants managed to breach the police line at Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City, triggering a shoving match with the lawmen on duty there Monday morning.

Radio reports said traffic at the area of Commonwealth Avenue was at a standstill as militants crossed the center island near the St. Peter Parish, only a stone’s throw away from the Batasan Pambansa complex.

No one was reported hurt, with police officers ordered by their seniors to observe maximum tolerance with the rallyists.

The rallyists from militant groups were trying to get near the Batasan Complex where President Benigno Aquino 3rd was to deliver his fourth State of the Nation Address before a joint session of Congress at 4 p.m. Monday.

Police and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority had barricaded parts of Commonwealth Avenue to keep militants from getting near the Batasan Complex, the seat of the House of Representatives. PNA
