PATROLLING government troops clashed with a group of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels on Friday in a sub-urban village in Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental, a military official said on Saturday.

Major Ray Tiongson, Public Affairs Office (PAO) chief of the army’s 3rd Infantry Division said in a report to Camp Aguinaldo, the armed encounter resulted to the recovery of one M1 Garand Rifle and one M1 Carbine.

During the clearing operation, government troops also overran a rebel encampment that has a classroom, makeshift structures, kitchen and observation posts. Also recovered were subversive documents, food and personal belongings, Tiongson said in the report.
