GOVERNMENT forces have captured a major camp of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in the rebel-infested province of Negros Occidental.
Maj. Ray Tiongson, chief, Public Affairs Office, Third Infantry Division, on Monday said that troops under the 11th Infantry Batta- lion discovered the NPA camp belonging to the NPA-Komiteng Rehiyonal-Negros at Sitio Na–putian, Barangay Tanawan, Kabankalan City.
The camp can accommodate more or less 100 person and has an estimated area of 2,185 square meters with two makeshifts and comfort rooms.
Recovered were subversive documents, an NPA flag, a handbook for Batakang Kurson Pampartido and personal belongings.
Tiongson said information provided by the residents enabled the soldiers to track the camp’s location, which is believed used by the rebels s a staging ground for their terroristic activities.
“This is a big blow to the NPA leadership and organization. NPA camps are where the rebels engaged in the assembly of improvised explosive devices and stage their atrocious plans and activities,” Col. Jon Aying, commander, 303rd Brigade said in a statement.
On January 14, Army troops recovered six improved anti-personnel claymore mines or IEDs with blasting caps at Barangay Purisima in Manapla town.
In 2012, 131 camps were seized or discovered by military troops. Eight camps were recovered with enemy resistance, while 123 were taken without any resistance.
