CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan De Oro City: The military in Northern Mindanao on Thursday issued a statement welcoming the visit of Pope Francis as the “Messenger of Peace.”
“While the Papal visit to the country shows sympathy and compassion to all those affected in the natural calamities, the Pope’s visit will have a transformational and lasting effect on all Filipinos and stakeholders to work together for peace,” Maj. Gen. Oscar T Lactao, Commander, of the army’s 4th Infantry Division here, said in a statement.
Lactao said that the Philippine Army in Northern Mindanao joins the Filipino people in welcoming the vicar of Christ, confident that the simplicity, fairness and the Pope’s concern for the common people would also become a source of the people’s spiritual strength.
Pope Francis message of peace and his advocacy and personal example personifies the love of Christ in all of us, the commander of the army’s largest base in Northern Mindanao, said.
Lactao also expressed his message of peace to those who will have the opportunity to meet or see the Pope. “To many Filipinos, seeing the Pope in person is an experience of a lifetime,” he said
He said that the army also believes in the Pope’s influential role in world peace and is optimistic that Pope Francis could lead the country toward a nation of peace. PNA
