GATHERING over 80 visual artists coming from different parts in Mindanao, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) collaborates with the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) and the Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago (GPA), to host the “Mindanao ArtBest: The Mindanao Visual Arts Festival 2014.”
Happening from October 21 to 23, the Ateneo Center for Culture and the Arts (ACCA) also took part in bringing 20 visual artists from northern Mindanao, 20 from southern Mindanao, and 40 artisans from western Mindanao to inspire creativity and culture in the community.
Following the workshop demonstration held by the Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago last September, the upcoming visual arts festival aims to showcase Mindanao’s artistry, to encourage the creation of contemporary works reflective of the uniqueness and realities of Mindanao, and to promote the rich cultural heritage of Mindanao.
“We are excited to host the Mindanao Visual Arts Festival this year,” said Kiko Miranda, the director of the Ateneo Center for Culture and the Arts. “By gathering the best works of Mindanaoan artists, we help harness and strengthen the cultural energies that bind us as peoples of Mindanao. Now, more than ever, we need to come together to discuss, reflect, and discern on the power of the visual arts in shaping the consciousness of the people, one artwork at a time.”
