MINDANAO’S POWER CONSUMERS SUE PEMC OVER IMEM

0

Electricity consumers in Mindanao have questioned before the High Court the legitimacy of the Interim Mindanao Electricity Market (IMEM), which reportedly usurped the power of Congress. Engineer David Tauli, president of the Mindanao Coalition of Power Consumers, has formally filed charges with the Supreme Court against the Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC) and the Department of Energy questioning the creation of the IMEM, which is not included in the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001. Tauli said that the creation of the IMEM was through an executive order of the Department of Energy, which clearly usurped the power of Congress. He said the distribution utilities in Mindanao are not only being charged in excess of approved generation rates, but they are also being charged for power supply that was not delivered.
