An Australian mining firm operating in the province of Nueva Vizcaya has turned over 20 housing units worth P3.3 million to the beneficiaries in Barangay Ticad, Bantayan Island town in Cebu who were victims of supertyphoon “Yolanda.” Bradley Norman, OceanaGold country director, said that with deep compassion and sincere desire to reach out to the Yolanda victims, OceanaGold with contractor Delta Earthmoving, Gawad Kalinga and Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement on May 14, 2014 to donate 20 housing units to the affected residents in Barangay Ticad. “We were then able to jointly raised a total amount of P3.3 million from contributions made by companies and employees for the construction of these houses while Gawad Kalinga and PMSEA assisted in the project management and sweat equity monitoring,” Norman said.
