Miriam skips second debate to join new cancer pill trial

CEBU City: THE second leg of the presidential debate organized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) kicked off on Sunday without Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago at the University of the Philippines (UP) Visayas.

Independent presidential candidate Sen. Grace Poe, Vice President Jejomar Binay of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and former Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas 2nd arrived an hour before the 5 p.m. event.

Santiago was a no-show because she opted to join an international clinical trial for a new unnamed cancer pill for her to gain free access to the medication.

She earlier said she had won the battle against her Stage 4 cancer.

The debate was delayed reportedly because candidates raised several concerns on the rules laid down by the Comelec.

  1. Among the Presidential candidates I prefer Sen. Mirriam Defensor Santiago but her run now is too late a hero for her and for her own health, I would like her to live a quiet life and hope Sen. MDS width draw from the race and endorse the candidate Sen. MDS feels can lead our country to a better future for our people that is graft free.
