A vice mayor of a Misamis Occidental town escaped unhurt but her two companions were injured in an ambush in a remote village on Monday, police said.
Senior Supt. Leony Roy Ga, Misamis Occidental police director, said Vice Mayor Annabelle Boza-Hamoy of Don Victoriano Chiongbian was spared from the suspects’ bullets but her driver—Danny Rabago and security escort Titing Luna—were wounded.
Reports reaching the PNP National Operation Center in Camp Crame said that the ambush took place at about 1: 30 p.m. on Monday in Brgy. Tuno in Don Victoriano Chiongbian Town.
Ga reported that Hamoy’s vehicle was negotiating along a blind curve when unidentified gunmen opened fire at them, injuring Rabago and hitting Luna, who was driving the lead motorcycle.
The group was traveling to Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur when the ambush was staged.
Ga has directed Chief Insp. Edgar Tonico, of the Don Victoriano Chiongbian police, to conduct a thorough investigation.
Don Victoriano Chiongbian has been listed in the Commission on Elections “areas of concern” based on incidents of political violence in previous elections.
