PLUS: Popularity getting the best of young love team

There is still more than a month to go until the 65th Miss Universe pageant happens in the Philippines but already, excitement is in full swing for this gathering of beauties.

On Thursday, the reigning Miss Universe, our very own Pia Wurtzbach flew into Manila to prepare for the pageant promotions. In the Know caught up with Pia at the airport who proudly said, “The fact that [the pageant]is in the Philippines, it’s going to be special!”

Eleven out of the 77 candidates who will compete for the Miss Universe crown in January also arrived in trickles on Friday, and will be in town until December 14.

Included in the festivities are Miss USA Deshauna Barber who is Pia’s roommate, half-Filipina/Half-Kiwi Miss New Zealand Tania Dawson, Miss Japan Sari Nakazawa, Miss Australia Caris Emily Tiivel, Miss China Li Zhenying, Miss Korea Jenny Kim, Miss Indonesia Kezia Warouw, Miss Malaysia Kiran Jassal, Miss Myanmar Htet Htet Htun, Miss Thailand Chalita Suansane, and Miss Vietnam Dang Thi Le Hang. Our very own Maxine Medina is also included in the promotions in areas such as Siargao, Palawan and Cebu.

Miss Universe pageant Creative Director for Philippine events Jonas Gaffud clarified that the contestants invited does not signify that they are early favorites. “No, they were invited out of availability since most of the girls are from Asia and Miss USA is easy to directly come over to the Philippines.”

The rest of the candidates will start to arrive on January 12 as well as confirmed host Steve Harvey. According to Miss USA, she had the chance to chat with the controversial host [at least for Filipinos]and he “promised to be error-free on pageant night.

“He’s going to do amazing this time—he promised me that,” said Deshuana.

Miss USA also got emotional when she talked about Pia: “I’m very sad that she’s giving up her crown in January. I’m gonna miss knocking on her door every morning to bother her. She’s an amazing person and I’m excited to know her personally.”

Pia still hopes to be based in New York City after she crowns the next Miss Universe. “Since I am already based there, it would be great if I could still work there. I can always come back here in the Philippines and of course the other countries in Asia as well, and I am looking forward to that. My goal is Asia, US and we’ll worry about the rest when the time comes.”

Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism assured the public that the Miss Universe events would not aggravate the traffic problem nor disrupt the daily grind. Assistant Secretary for Administration and Special Concerns Kat De Castro stated, “Walang isasarado na kalsada, walang itatago na tao. Ipakita natin ang ganda ng Pilipinas na despite the poverty, there is beauty in the country.”

The Miss Universe pageant unfold on January 30, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

GUESS WHO? You can’t say they’ve made it in the biz just yet, but these love birds act as if they’ve already surpassed the competition. Staffers at this popular furniture shop were quick to compare this Promising Love Team’s attitude with Grounded Love Team.

The visit of these two pairs to the store took place just weeks apart but the staffers were shocked to be at the receiving end of Promising Love Team’s snobbish ways. While Grounded Love Team was chatty with the staff, the homey atmosphere of the furniture shop did not see to rub off Promising Love Team who acted as if they were the only two people in the room. They ignored the staffers who asked them for photos as if they were ghosts.
