Miss World-Philippines pageant set in September

Three new titles at stake in shorter, fast-paced production
Living up to its prestige and honor as the longest-running major international pageant since its humble beginnings in 1951, the Miss World competition has held the country in high esteem since Megan Young’s historic victory as the first Filipina Miss World titleholder in 2013.

New Miss World Philippines national director Arnold Vegafria has promised to make this year’s pageant more epic and trendsetting, fusing the best elements from Filipino culture with a dash of showbiz pizzazz—the better to promote local tourism and generate goodwill among all contestants.

“I am deeply honored and privileged to have been given this challenge. I am looking forward to continuing our mission of uplifting the image of the Filipina in the global pageant circuit, but even more importantly, it has always been our priority to perpetuate the Miss World Organization’s noble advocacy of Beauty with A Purpose,” he said, taking the torch from previous franchise holder-national director Cory Quirino.

With its think tank comprised of the country’s top style nasters, fashion mavens, runway directors and pageant experts, this year’s Miss World Philippines core group promises a shorter but more fast-paced production, with a totally refreshing stylistic makeover.

Besides the main crown, this year’s Miss World Philippines pageant will also unveil three new titles – Miss Eco Philippines 2017, Miss Reina Hispano Americana Filipinas 2017, and Miss Multinational Philippines 2017.

The Miss Eco International 2018 pageant will be held in Alexandria, Egypt on April 2018, while the Reina Hispano Americana 2017 coronation night will be held in Santa Cruz, Bolivia on November 2017. The Miss Multinational pageant will take place in New Delhi, India.

“It’s a great privilege to have been given a significant role and responsibility in this year’s Miss World Philippines organization. We promise to give the pageant a timely makeover and more stylish aesthetic that should make it more relevant for today’s millennial generation,” newly appointed MWP general manager Bessie Besana remarked.

In keeping with the times, organizers are also keen on reestablishing MWP’s online presence through newly refurbished social media accounts to better interact with pageant fans across the globe.

This year’s edition becomes even more meaningful for its renewed commitment to charitable advocacies, with the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center as beneficiary, with particular focus on the care and rehabilitation of its indigent pediatric patients.

A new crown designed by no less than Megan Young will also be unveiled in this year’s pageant.

Miss World Philippines 2017 is slated for September 3 at the SM MOA Arena telecast over GMA 7 on the same night.

Deadline for application is on July 22. Interested applicants may submit their documents together with their photos in person at the Miss World Philippines Secretariat, Suite 507, Taipan Place, F. Ortigas Jr., Ortigas Center or send email to secretariat@missworldphilippines.org.
