POLICE remain baffled on the death of a female fourth-year high school student whose body was found early Sunday in a rice field in a remote village in Rosario town, Agusan del Sur province, police reports said on Monday.
Reports reaching the Philippine National Police (PNP) National Operations Center in Camp Crame identified the victim as Richellyn Aniversario Pagdato, 16, and a student of Bayugan 3 National High School.
Reports added that Pagdato’s body was recovered at about 6:40 a.m. on Sunday after the police received a call that a cadaver was seen in a rice field along Purok San Roque, Padigusan, Barangay Sta. Cruz also in Rosario town.
Reports said that the rice field’s caretaker discovered the body after he searched for a source of foul stench.
Pagdato’s body was identified by a relative who immediately went to the scene upon hearing the news.
Police said that the victim’s father, Jose Amado Pagdato, reported to the Women’s and Children Protection Division of the Rosario Municipal police that his daughter was missing since December 7.
The reports said that elements of the Rosario Police are still conducting an investigation to identify the possible suspects, while the victim’s body are still undergoing forensic examination to determine the cause of her death. ANTHONY VARGAS
