THE local automotive industry closed the month of May registering sales of 15,859 units, a modest growth of 5.1 percent as compared to April sales of 15,095 units. The continuous robust economy was well reflected with the year on year sales surge of 23.3 percent as industry sales reached to 72,988 units for the first five months of the year.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) recorded an all-time highest monthly sales of 4,063 units for May. MMPC total sales for May is also 11.1 percent higher compared to April sales of 3,658 units and is significantly up by 35.2 percent versus the total sales from the same month last year. Year-on-year sales also reflected a remarkable double digit growth of 25.6percent. Combined reports from Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (Campi) and Truck Manufacturers Association showed that MMPC captured 24.3-percent market share for the month of May, making it a strong number two automotive brand in the country.
