Seventeen Filipino junior netters will be vying for honors in the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer International Junior Championships beginning today at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.
Veteran campaigner Alberto Lim Jr. spearheads the country’s campaign in the boys’ division of the Grade 1 tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation. Lim, coming off a four-month training in US, is looking to surpass his second-round finish in the 2013 edition.
Also seeing action are Andrew Cano, John Bryan Decasa, Marcen Angelo Gonzales, Dave Sebastian Mosqueda, Eric Olivarez Jr. , Vince Russel Salas and Joachim Samson.
Leading the girls’ team are Malacca International Junior Championship runner-up Khim Iglupas, Roxanne Resma and Maia Ber–nadette Balce along with Andrea Nicole Amistad, Angela Sunga, Monica Cruz, Marie Pages, Frances Santiago and Coline Sioson.
Lee Duck Hee of South Korea, Harry Bourchier of Australia and Ken Onishi of Japan are the top seeds in the boys’ category while Sun Ziyue of China, Katie Boulter of Great Britain and another Chinese You Xiaodi are the players to beat in the girls’ class.
