Mixers, Aces in do-or-die match

SECOND-seed San Mig Coffee and no. 7 Alaska Aces dispute the semifinal slot in a do-or-die battle Friday in the 2013 Governor’s Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Aces forged the rubber match following a 112-105 win over the Coffee Mixers last Wednesday.

Coach Tim Cone’s San Mig enjoyed a twice-to-beat advantage for finishing with a 6-3 card.

San Mig and Alaska will collide at 7:15 p.m and the winner will face Meralco Bolts in a best-of-five semifinals. Meralco earned the first semis slot by crushing Barako Bull, 86-68, in the other quarterfinal match also the other day.

The other quarterfinal matches pit fourth seed Rain or Shine (5-4) against Globalport (4-5) and top seed Petron (8-1) against no. 8 Ginebra (3-6). They were still playing at presstime.

Meanwhile, Ginebra’s LA Tenorio and Michael Singletary of Barako Bull are currently pacing the Best Player of the Conference and Best Import Awards respectively in the on-going Governor’s Cup.

The 5’8 guard Tenorio, a fourth overall pick by San Miguel in 2006, accumulated a total of 33.3 statistical points while the 6’4 Singletary topped the eliminations with 55.1 SPs but the early exit of Barako Bull could spoil his quest.
