For the entire Holy Week, provincial buses will be exempted from the number coding scheme or the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) in Metro Manila.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the UVVRP will be lifted from Holy Tuesday to Monday, April 21 for provincial buses.
The coding will be temporarily suspended in anticipation the surge of commuters traveling to the provinces during the Lenten break, MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said.
“By suspending such scheme, there would be enough public utility buses to serve the riding public,” said Tolentino.
He said the volume of vehicles leaving Metro Manila will increase start on Holy Tuesday and Holy Wednesday.
The MMDA also adjusted the schedule of road reblockings to be conducted by the Department Works and Highways (DPWH).
From the original schedule of 10 p.m. of Holy Tuesday, the reblocking was moved by the MMDA to 2 p.m. of Holy Wednesday.
“The adjustment will still allow others to report for work and for them to adjust in going to the provinces particularly in plying the Southern Luzon Expressway and North Luzon Expressway,” Tolentino said.
