FOR failing to finish the reblocking of some portions of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (Edsa) on time, contractors tapped by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be fined.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino identified the contractors as AKH Contractor and Jargon Builders.
Tolentino said the two contractors will be asked to pay P25,000 fine for failing to follow the schedule.
He said he has written the two contractors and asked them to explain why they did not complete the project on time.
Tolentino also asked the district engineer of the DPWH to explain the delay.
The MMDA chief earlier expressed dismay upon learning that the reblocking in Makati area of Edsa near Dasmariñas Village was not finished on schedule.
He blamed the “inefficiency” of the contractor and the DPWH district engineer.
Although the MMDA and DPWH had agreed to finish all road works and re-blocking activities on Edsa during the Holy Week, Tolentino said it is not yet complete.
Tolentino said at least 2,000 square meters still needs to be re-blocked along Edsa covering the cities of Mandaluyong and Quezon.
The MMDA chief said the re-blocking activities could be continued after the state visit of U.S. President Barack Obama.
He added that it will not allow road reblockings to continue this weekend due to the evangelical mission of the Iglesia ni Cristo in Pasay City on Saturday.
