Worried that it might trigger more traffic problems during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno Aquino 3rd, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday suspended seven road repair projects along EDSA.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said they had to freeze the road repair work of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) scheduled from July 19 to 22 in anticipation of the heavy traffic during Monday’s SONA.
“We didn’t issue permits to the seven other reblocking operations this weekend because we would be implementing traffic rerouting for the President’s SONA on Monday, and the road closures along EDSA might have adverse effects on traffic flow,” Tolentino said.
Tolentino said two other reblocking and repair projects on EDSA will to push through this weekend.
The MMDA and DPWH agreed there will be no repair and excavation works along major streets in Metro Manila without a permit from the MMDA.
