The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has hauled a total of 6.81 tons of illegal campaign materials in Metro Manila or the National Capital Region.
According to Francis Martinez, MMDA Metro Parkway Clearing Group head, the illegal campaign materials were collected during the four-day implementation of Oplan Baklas.
During the first day of the operation, a total of 1.82 tons of illegal campaign materials was collected in España in Manila, and Roosevelt, Araneta and Quezon avenues in Quezon City.
On the second day, MMDA personnel collected another one ton of illegal campaign materials in Lacson, Quiapo, Road 10, Moriones, Dagupan, Lawton and North Cemetery areas.
At least 1.27 tons were hauled in Additional Hills and Bonifacio Avenue in Mandaluyong City during the third day of operation.
Another 1.9 tons were collected in Sauyo Road in Quezon City and Dapitan and P. Margal area in Manila.
MMDA Chairman Emerson Carlos said their personnel removed campaign posters and tarpaulins posted on electric wires.
“We encountered some resistance from the supporters but we have to apply the full force of the law,” he added.
The MMDA clearing teams were escorted by personnel from the Commission on Election (Comelec) and the Philippine National Police for the safety of their people.
Carlos said that they are only removing campaign posters that are posted outside the common poster areas designated by the Comelec.
