• MMDA issues Christmas traffic regulations

Aside from issuing a moratarium on road repair work, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will open 18 “Christmas lanes” in an effort to ease traffic congestion during the holiday season.

The MMDA will not allow road diggings in all national and city roads from midnight of December 13 up to midnight of January 6, 2014.

It will also ban foot and bike races from December 16 to January 6.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said they will announce the Christmas lane alternative routes on Thursday.

Except this coming weekend, there will be no more road reblocking operations along EDSA and other major and secondary roads.

“These traffic measures are designed to facilitate the free flow of motorists and Christmas shoppers before the start of Simbang Gabi on December 16,” Tolentino said.

The MMDA expects a 20-percent increase in traffic volume this Christmas season because of the influx of shoppers and vehicles from Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, and Central Luzon.
