The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has intensified its campaign against motorists whose vehicles still use commemorative plates.
MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Emerson Carlos said Sunday the agency has ordered its traffic enforcers to pull over vehicles with commemorative plates.
He said the directive was issued following an advisory by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) that special car plates have been invalid since July 31st.
“We have already given the orders to our traffic officers to implement this since regular plates and conduction stickers are the only allowed car plates,” he added.
Carlos said that based on the reports they received, majority of those who used their special car plates are not officials or employees of the said organizations.
There were instances when commemorative plates were used to evade a traffic citation.
Some government agencies have complained of the growing number of vehicles on the road with commemorative plates of agencies like the Department of Justice (DoJ), Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
