The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Sunday said it will go after contractors of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) who are doing road repairs unauthorized by the agency.
MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Emerson Carlos said they have discovered that some contractors are doing road works without a permit from his office.
He said that on Elliptical Road in Quezon City, re-blocking is done in the day instead of night.
“When we stopped them, we found out that the contractor has no permit issued by MMDA,” Carlos said.
He said the contractor’s equipment were confiscated to stop the “illegal” road repair.
Carlos warned all DPWH contractors to get an MMDA permit first before conducting any road repairs.
The MMDA allows road repairs and re-blockings only from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The agency blamed the traffic gridlock in Metro Manila to road repairs and improvement being done during the day.
