MMDA to open 4 new Pasig ferry terminals

TO accommodate more commuters, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will add four terminals to the Pasig River ferry service.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the four stations—Hulo and Valenzuela in Makati City and Lawton and Lambingan in Manila—will open in May.

“With the added stations, we will be expanding our routes to service more passengers,” Tolentino said.

At present, the ferry service has seven stations—Guadalupe in Makati City; Pinagbuhatan and San Joaquin in Pasig City; Escolta, PUP Sta. Mesa, Plaza Mexico and Sta. Ana all in Manila.

The MMDA has purchased five additional boats that can carry 26 to 35 passengers for its expansion project.

MMDA’s Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group head Rod Tuazon said these ferries can travel at 30 kilometers per hour.

“This will make travel time faster for passengers making the trip from Pinagbutahan to Intramuros just 45 minutes,” he said.

Starting March 15, students will be given a 50 percent discount on ferry fares which range from P30 to P50.
