MMDA traffic enforcer killed by bike-riding men

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday condemned the killing of one of its traffic constables early dawn by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Quezon City.

MMDA Chairman Emerson Carlos said traffic personnel Sydney Role was gunned down while on duty on Commonwealth Avenue and Tandang Sora.

The agency, according to Carlos, would not be cowed by lawless elements wreaking havoc on the streets of Metro Manila.

He said the MMDA would not let up until the killers of the traffic constables is brought to justice.

“This act of senseless violence shall not go unpunished especiallywhen done to a government servant who was just doing his job,” Carlos noted.

A report reaching the MMDA chief’s office in Makati City said Role was manning his post around 3:20 a.m. on Monday when the traffic enforcer flagged down two men who went against traffic flow.

One of the men immediately got off the vehicle and shot Role twice in the head point blank.

The two men sped off after seeing the traffic enforcer sprawled on the ground.

Members of the city’s Oplan Discipline in Barangay Batasan rushed Role with the help of other MMDA constables to the East Avenue Medical Center where doctors declared him dead.
