Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino is hoping that the 41st Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) will register gross earnings of P1.2 billion as he announced this year’s eight official entries.
Topping the list is MR and MRS Split starring Kris Aquino and Herbert Bautista directed by Antoinette Jadaone and the pairing of Japanese adult film star Maria Ozawa with Robin Padilla for the horror movie Nilalang: The Entity directed by Pedring Lopez.
The others are Beauty and the Bestie directed by Wenn Deramas starring Vice Ganda and Coco Martin; Death and Senses directed by Randolph Lonjas starring Rayver Cruz, Jayson Gainza, John Lapus, and Ian Veneracion; Haunted Mansion directed by Jun Llana starring Janella Salvador and Jerome Ponce; Hermano Puli directed by Gil Portes starring Aljur Abrenica; Romcom-in Mo Ako directed by directed by Jose Javier Reyes starring Vic Sotto and Ai Ai de las Alas; and Walang Forever directed by Dan Villegas starring JM de Guzman and Jennylyn Mercado.
On reserve in the 9th and 10th spots are Conman directed by Erik Matti starring John Lloyd Cruz and Lakambini, a biopic of Andres Bonifacio’s wife Gregoria de Jesus, by Jeffrey Jeturian starring Lovi Poe. These movies will be chosen in case one of the shortlisted entries drops out.
Among those that didn’t make the cut are Special Action Force starring ousted Laguna Gov. ER Ejercito, also known by his screen name Jeorge Estregan, and Kabisera led by Nora Aunor.
