TO promote local animation industry, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is adding a new category for animated videos in its annual award-giving event.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino, who is also the overall MMFF head, said that animation will be under the New Wave Section dedicated to independent and student films.
“We promised last year that out New Wave Section was going to be bigger, bolder and better. With the animation category, we are yet again pushing the envelope and providing a platform for our animators, both young and veterans,” said Tolentino in a statement on Friday.
The MMFF believes that the country needs to showcase the works of animators to the Filipino audience and promote animation industry as “as we have an incredible pool of talents.”
The MMFF has also partnered with the Animation Council of the Philippines (ACPI), the country’s lead organization in the promotion of the animation industry development.
The ACPI was present during the meeting with directors and producers presided by the two heads of the New Wave Section, renowned producer Digma Santiago and director Paul Soriano.
