MNLF, soldier killed in Zamboanga City clearing operations


A soldier from the 44th Infantry Battalion was killed along with a Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) member during clearing operations in Barangay Sta. Barbara, Zamboanga City Monday afternoon.

Capt. Jefferson Somera, 1st Infantry Division spokesperson, said the incident took place around 2:30 p.m.

He said the firefight between soldiers and the MNLF fighter who refused to surrender lasted some 30 minutes.

Somera said they recovered an M-4 rifle and M-14 automatic rifle from the slain rebel.

Clearing operations are still ongoing. PNA
