• Mobile data boosts Smart H1 revenues by 55%

    WIRELESS leader Smart Communications said increasing usage and better monetization boosted revenue growth by 55 percent to P8.1 billion in the first six months of 2016 from a year ago.

    Ariel Fermin, executive vice president and head of consumer business for both PLDT and Smart, said mobile data business now accounts for 27 percent of total wireless data and broadband revenues for the period, up from 20 percent a year ago.

    “Now we’ve seen improved monetization from the increasing customer demand of our expanding suite of wireless data services. We are on track,” Fermin said.

    The launch of the myPhone28s at P888 and Starmobile Play Click at P1,288, both bundled with 100MB of data per month, helped increase not only smartphone adoption but also data usage while Giga Surf 50, which offers 1GB of data for P50 valid for three days, and data sharing plans like Plan 999, also generated higher data usage.

    “We will sustain our efforts to enable and accelerate further data adoption to stimulate usage,” Fermin said.
