• Modernization, not sale, of govt hospitals — DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday denied it is spearheading the privatization of government hospitals. “In fact, there is no single document that will show that there are hospitals that were being privatized or sold by DOH,” said Health Undersecretary Teodoro Herbosa during the 31st anniversary of the National Kidney Transplant and Institute (NKTI) in Quezon City on Monday. Herbosa said that there could be some misconception about the modernization program being carried out by the DOH. “An example of modernization plan is what was done by DOH here in NKTI. Here, the facilities as well as the equipment were modernized to improve health care services,” Herbosa explained. He added that the Philippine Orthopedic Center in Banawe, Quezon City which will be transferred along the vicinity of NKTI is not even a move for “privatization.”
