A FORMER barangay chairman of Calungbuyan village in Balaoan town, La Union was among the latest batch of 200 suspected drug pushers and users who surrendered on Wednesday, according to police chief, Insp. Antonio Dasalla.
The youngest to turn himself in was a 17-year-old college student, who with his 19-year-old friend, admitted to having smoked marijuana since they were 14 years old. They said many of their schoolmates were using it as well.
Another one told The Manila Times that he voluntarily surrendered after learning that his name was included in the drug watch list. He said he did it to clear his name, claiming he was a victim of a frame-up after admitting that he used shabu before, but has stopped.
Dasalla said the volunteers will be monitored through their respective Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils.
Since the massive operation early this month, 1,545 have surrendered to the La Union Police Office.
