THE tandem of Senators Grace Poe and Francis Escudero got a huge boost on Thursday as more groups expressed their “unconditional and unwavering” support for the tandem including candidates who are running under the party of other presidential bets.
Incumbent and independent candidates from various political groups led by Aksyon Demokratiko, the political party of the late senator Raul Roco, endorsed the presidential bid of Poe and hailed the senator’s platform of governance.
“Grace Poe represents a healthy and meaningful balance between continuing the gains of this administration and changing what are sorely lacking especially in the areas of infrastructure and poverty alleviation,” said Aksyon president Robbi Pierre Roco, son of the late senator Roco.
Among those who vowed to campaign for Poe were 23 Liberal Party (LP) mayoral bets, five mayoral incumbent candidates of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), six members of the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) and two bets from the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).
Candidates running under the People’s Reform Party (PRP) of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago and Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino and National Unity Party also threw their support behind Poe.
“The platform of governance of Grace Poe in her pursuit of a Gobyernong may Puso clearly shows a bias for the vulnerable and marginalized. Her cohesive platform clearly advances our vision,” former National Youth Commission Chair Leon Flores 3rd said. Flores is Aksyon’s vice president for education.
Aksyon Pateros mayoral candidate Ramon Roxas, a relative of LP standard-bearer Manuel Roxas 2nd, also declared support for Poe, as well as Tarlac City Mayor and PMP gubernatorial candidate Ace Manalang; Talisay, Batangas Mayor Jerry Natanuan of the LP; and Aksyon congressional candidate Donna Lun Gerdan.
Meanwhile, the Partido ng Manggagawa at Magsasaka (PMM) of the late overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Family Club party-list Rep. Roy Señeres also pledged their support to Poe and her running mate.
In a statement signed by PMM chairman and president Jose Malvar Villegas Jr., the party announced its decision to support the presidential bid of Poe.
“The ground has been cleared by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Supreme Court for PMM to now adopt a guest candidate for President,” Villegas said.
Actor Coco Martin, Rodel Luis Nacianceno in real life, also vowed to support Poe, whom he described as the most deserving presidential candidate.
Martin, who plays the character of the senator’s father, the late Fernando Poe Jr., in the television drama series “Ang Probinsyano” vowed to campaign for Poe.
Martin joined Poe and the rest of Partido Galing at Puso candidates in their campaign sortie in Puerto Princessa, Palawan.
“I’m not here to tell the people who to vote. I’m here to show the people who I am supporting,” he said.
