A total of 384 cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cases were reported in November this year, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

HIV leads to the dreaded Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

Cases of HIV this year reached 4,456, Assistant Health Secretary Dr. Eric Tayag said via Twitter.

This is about a thousand cases higher than last year’s 3,338 cases.

Last October, the DOH recorded 491 HIV cases.

Most of the victims are aged 15 to 24. The top modes of transmission were sexual contact, needle sharing among drug users.

The United Nations listed the Philippines as nine countries where HIV cases continue to rise.
