SAN Mateo, Rizal: More political leaders of the province of Rizal have thrown their support behind the vice presidential bid of Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., including the mayor of this town.
Mayor Jose Rafael Diaz, Vice Mayor Cristina Diaz, and Rep. Isidro Rodriguez Jr. welcomed Marcos during the flag-raising ceremony when his “Unity Caravan” rolled into the town on Monday morning.
The Diaz couple, who will switch places in the May 9 local polls, thanked the Ilocano lawmaker for visiting their town. Diaz was a former active Kabataang Barangay (youth village) leader.
Marcos visited other Rizal towns last month and was endorsed by the influential Ynares family led by Gov. Rebecca Ynares, former governor Casimiro Jr., and their son, Antipolo City Mayor Casimiro Ynares 3rd.
Rizal has the distinction of giving the late Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Sr., the highest vote in 1986 snap elections.
Almost all incumbent mayors of Rizal vowed to support Marcos.
Meanwhile, the Guardians Brotherhood (1GB) Party-list also threw its support behind Marcos.
In a one-page manifesto, signed by second nominee Rolando Bernardo, the group has made official its support for Marcos Jr.
The 1GB party-list group is composed of various associations of Guardians in the country and abroad.
The manifesto was read during the Guardians Republican International Inc., meeting held at the group’s headquarters in Barangay Bambang, Los Baños, Laguna.
“As a united organization built in the truest sense of brotherhood, we declare our support for the candidacy of Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., for vice president in the coming May 9, 2016 national elections,” the manifesto said.
Marcos thanked the leaders and members of 1GB party list for their expression of support and for giving him the opportunity to meet with them.
In the same way, Marcos said, his call for national unity is essential to the realization of his vision for a brighter future of the country.
