MORE troops will be deployed in Mindanao to augment military and police forces in an intensified operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and other terror threat elements, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin revealed on Thursday.
“Ang ating laban sa Abu Sayyaf ay pinagpapatuloy natin ang operation at magdadagdag pa tayo ng mga pwersa upang sa ganun ay mapatahimik natin ang mga kanilang ginagawang kalokohan (Our fight against the Abu Sayyaf is a continuing operation and we will be adding more troops so that we can neutralize their atrocities),” Gazmin said in a radio interview.
The deployment of more troops came following orders of President Aquino 3rd to maximize all security and offensive efforts against all destabilizing elements in Mindanao.
Gazmin said government troops are focused on the ASG who were holding hostages in Sulu.
He also urged the public to help the government and security elements to identify the terrorists and monitor any unusual movement.
Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief-of-staff Gen. Hernando Iriberri has met with key military commanders in Mindanao to personally discuss the fresh offensives against the Abu Sayyaf and other threat groups in Mindanao.
But military officials pointed out that even before President Aquino’s order, there have been measures being implemented, especially in Western Mindanao command, against the terror groups.
