GUIMBA, Nueva Ecija: The roof of a public school building was damaged while four motorcycles were burned in a firecracker explosion that occurred along Faigal St., Sto. Cristo District here at around 10:05 a.m. Wednesday.
Supt. Ricardo Villanueva, director of the Provincial Public Safety Company, said the “roof of the classrooms of Guimba West Central School was partially damaged,” and four motorcycles were totally burned.
Investigation showed the fire started with a huge smoke at the stall of a certain Teresa Silva that was followed by “a series of explosion from said stall to nearby stalls that caused fire and total burning of all adjoining firecrackers stalls numbering to 24,” said PO2 Amorsolo Grospe, investigator.
Burned stalls were from number 29 to 56.
Police estimated the damage at around P560,000.00.
Authorities have yet to establish the cause of the fire, he said.
In San Jose City, police operatives confiscated several firecrackers being sold outside the designated selling area by a certain Carolyn Marzan,31, a resident of Zone 2, Barangay Malasin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Confiscated were Judas belt (14 pieces); Sawa 500 rounds (1 piece); Sawa 1,000 rounds (1 pc); Five Star (2 boxes); Kwitis (200 pcs); Bomb Shell big bossing (6 pcs); Fountain Legend (8 pcs); Magic diamond fountain (4 pcs); Sputnik silver (3 pcs); Roman candle (4 pcs), Big Ben 16 shots (3 pcs); and Fountain small (8 pcs).
